A joint venture between Royal Boskalis Westminster and Van Oord has received a letter of intent covering work on the Nord Stream 2 project in the Baltic. The contract with a combined value of around €250 million will be split equally between the two companies.
The companies will work together to provide rock placement services on the Nord Stream 2 trunk gas pipeline that will pump Russian gas to northern European markets. This is a significant letter of intent for these companies, which said the contract details are expected to be finalised in the next few weeks.
Rock needs to be installed at specific locations along the pipeline route to level the seabed and to protect the pipelines. Boskalis said the contract scope includes sourcing the rock from quarries in the Baltic region. The partnership will use multiple fallpipe vessels during 2018 and 2019 to place the rock.
