Maersk Supply Service has taken delivery of Maersk Master, the first of its new class of high spec anchor handling tug/supply vessels.
Built at Kleven Verft Shipyard in Norway, this first vessel in Maersk Supply Services Starfish-class was designed by Salt Ship Design in Norway. The Salt 200 Starfish anchor handler is the first of six sister units due to be delivered to the company. The remaining five are all due for delivery in 2017.
With a total output of more than 23,000 bhp, Maersk Master has a bollard pull of more than 250 tonnes and achieved 246 tonnes continuously during trials. The dynamic positioning class 2 vessel has a length of 95m, beam of 25m and has an open deck area of more than 800mē with an additional 102mē of covered deck area. It is equipped with a 450-tonne anchor handling winch .
The new vessel has a deadweight of 4,500 tonnes, accommodation for 52 people and is equipped with a work-class remotely operated vehicle in a hangar. The vessel has FiFi 1, Ice 1A classification and oil recovery capabilities.
Maersk Master will soon commence its maiden work scope, being utilised by Maersk Oil on the Janice and Leadon decommissioning projects in the UK sector of the North Sea.
